A Magistrates’ Court in Freetown yesterday imposed a 6-month jail term on some “supporters” of the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party, following their conviction for participating in the violence that marred this year’s Independence Day celebrations. You have to commend the speedy nature of the proceedings and the fact that all of them were represented by a lawyer. The police officers who were caught on camera beating up an old woman and those accused of torturing some of the suspects also need to be held accountable. Selective justice is no justice at all. End impunity for police violence!
